Mr. Bay has over 24 years of experience as a technology executive and private venture investor.
He is the former Chairman of Loudeye (www.loudeye.com - NASDAQ: LOUD), the leading provider of business-to-business systems and services for the digital media industry. Loudeye operates over 90 digital music stores in over 20 countries for a variety of customers including France Telecom, ATT wireless, MSN, Coke and Nokia. Loudeye manages the world's largest licensed archive of digital music with over 5M tracks and is the largest provider of music sampling services to online retailers.
Mr. Bay is also on the boards of CMGI (NASDAQ: CMGI) and Active24 (OSLO: ACTIVE).
Previously, Mr. Bay spent 6 years with Microsoft where he rose to Corporate Vice President and General Manager of Microsoft's Digital Media Division and a member of Microsoft's executive staff. In that role he was responsible for Microsoft's multimedia and digital rights management technologies (DRM) managing a team of 700 technical staff and an R&D budget of over $100M. Mr. Bay was responsible for the creation and development of "Windows Media Technologies"; including Media Player, codecs, media server, DRM and the windowsmedia.com portal,
Earlier, Mr. Bay was General Manager of Microsoft's Commercial Systems Division, responsible for core components of Microsoft's Internet services platform, including ISP/carrier infrastructure, website development & content mgmt and electronic commerce.
Mr. Bay joined Microsoft as part of the MSN management team in 1994, initially responsible for Internet strategy and engineering and eventually as General Manager for all MSN development and systems.
Prior to Microsoft, Mr. Bay spent eight years at Apple Computer, including three years at Apple's European headquarters in Paris. He served as General Manager of Apple's Online Services in Europe, General Manager for Enterprise Systems Europe, and Product Line Manager for Apple's Workgroup Systems.
Before joining Apple, Mr. Bay was a principal in two Silicon Valley start-up companies.
Mr. Bay received a BA from the University of California at Los Angeles and an MBA from San Jose State in California. He also studied at INSEAD in Paris, France and at Georg-August Universitaet in Goettingen, Germany.
